I'd head to '71.

A nice rendition from a great show.

Here is a sweet version, not sure if its epic, but it melted me when it was happening. From the year after DP5, the ending of my first show. http://archive.org/details/gd1980-12-31.mtx.tobin.105029.flac16

I don't know of a more poignant or emotive rendition than 9/20/70...

There is some debate about whether Garcia is in fact playing the piano on To Lay Me Down for both the 9/19 & 20/70 sets. My opinion is that it's Jer tinkling the ivories on both performances. But it's Pig playing here on Brokedown. I think Pig could play when he put his mind to it. As evidenced by his gorgeous playing on the lovely acoustic rendition of Truckin' at this same show.

That, and 10-4-70 has the amazing harmony with echo that just blows folks away, though there are techno difficulties.

It has to be heard...

My favorite Brokedown without hesitation is Alpine Valley 8/8/82, in a double encore out of Satisfaction - http://archive.org/details/gd82-08-08.sbd-wise.unknown.7690.sbeok.shnf. Just exactly perfect . . . .

A few that I like off the top of my head:
1984-04-21 Philadelphia
1980-06-21 Anchorage
1989-10-12 Meadowlands
1977-05-18 Atlanta
1974-02-22 Winterland

That'll get ya started. I like these vocally for unique reasons on each show. Let me know what ya think. Listen to a matrix if ya have the option and let me know if you find others or whatcha think.
